What is CPaaS?

CPaaS (Communications Platform as a Service) is an extension of both CCaaS and UCaaS. The platform enables companies to add telephony features to their existing software without having to invest in new hardware or infrastructure and without requiring specialized technical knowledge. CPaaS could, for example, allow your support team to communicate with customers through your mobile app, rather than theirs.

CPaaS enables you to build real-time communications features without having to build your own technology stack. In addition to sample code and pre-built applications, a CPaaS platform typically includes an application programming interface (API) to integrate desired solutions, and other communication software tools. Many companies offer integration libraries. CPaaS vendors include software vendors, communication service providers, systems integrators, and hardware retailers.

Benefits of CPaaS

Scalability: A CPaaS can be used by any company, since there is no hardware or infrastructure to install.

Customization: The platform's API allows organizations to integrate their existing communication apps. Some integrations can be selected from a provider-curated library or from a community of users.

Speed to first call: The new platform can be up and running in a shorter amount of time than on-premise hardware.

Minimized training needs: Employees learn a new software program, not a whole new equipment ecosystem.

Cost-effective: CPaaS allows businesses to only pay for the services they use, as opposed to on-premise systems. CPaaS platforms also tend to have fewer developer-based costs thanks to their community-based nature.
